NCHJA The Carolinas Equestrian 01 The NCHJA is celebrating its 45th Anniversary as the governing body for all sanctioned hunter/jumper shows in North Carolina. It was founded by Linda Lee Reynolds due to a lack of horse shows in North Carolina with the demand was increasing.  Instrumental in the beginning of the NCHJA and still active today, is the Dow Family of Maplegate Farm of Matthews, NC. Fran Dow served as secretary for many years, Rob has served as treasurer, and Cathy Dow is the current president.  The Annual Horse Show started in Greensboro to highlight the accomplishments of its members, with the equitation riders in the E.J. Haun medal finals.

Now in its 36th year, the Annual Horse Show continues to invite top equitation finalists to compete in the Bryan Jones Adult Equitation Medal, the E.J. Haun Equitation Medal, the NCHJA Children’s Medal and the NCHJA Pony Medal.  Winners of the four medal finals will receive a $1000 scholarship grant to be used for continuing their equitation or educational pursuits.  Some of the past NCHJA Medal winners include Liza Towel Boyd, Katherine Miracle, Loren Hazard-Daniel, Lauren Hill, Jeffery Wells, Jennifer Barker and Logan Riley.

The show features three derbies - the NCHJA National Hunter Derby which pays out $7500, the USHJA Pony Derby which pays out $5,000 and the Wee Derby which pays out $500 and is sponsored this year by the Zahn Family and Oriana Stables.

NCHJA The Carolinas Equestrian 02 Returning as show manager is Patrick Rodes of Southbound Show Management, bringing years of experience as a show manager, course designer and horse show judge. Rodes has a long relationship with NCHJA and works closely with Board Members to improve the quality and show experience for all exhibitors and their families.

An exciting new feature of this year’s horse show is the Green Hunter South Region Championships.  The prize money for these Championship classes totals $15,000. In celebration of this momentous event, many local trainers and barns in both NC and SC have come together to host a wonderful dinner party to be held Thursday evening, ringside to the NCHJA National Hunter Derby.

The 36th Annual Horse Show will host many hospitality events and offer surprises each day plus a few fun ways to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the NCHJA.
